Tour Stop: The Oracle of Delphi by Diantha Jones- Interview

The Interview:

Me: Why did you decide to start writing the Oracle of Delphi series?

Diantha Jones (DJ): Well first, the Oracle is such an under-represented part of Greek myth that the idea of putting her in the spotlight was too intriguing to pass up. Then I came up with the idea to make each book a different prophecy and how cool that would be, and I was sold on the idea. And it really worked well for me, which can't be said for the other ideas I had :)

Me: What made you interested in mythology? (I know that for me it was just hearing all of the interesting stories from ancient Greece about all of the gods and goddesses.)

DJ: I agree. Every myth I learned just made me more of a fan. It's so fun and interesting, and I still learn new things everyday.

Me: What was your first thought(s) when your first book had been sold?

DJ: I don't remember feeling anything special, but I was happy. I know that sounds kind of bad, but even now I'm more concerned with how many books I'm going to sell in the future. The past no longer matters, you know? I'm always looking ahead. But don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for every, single book I sell. I love the readers. They're great and I would be nothing without them.

Me: Who is your absolute favorite character (not including Chloe)?

DJ: Strafford Law is definitely my favorite character after Chloe. I think he's the perfect mix of awesomeness and imperfection. He's hard but he has a softer side. He's brave but he has fears. I believe he's the perfect hero to stand at Chloe's side.

Me:  What do you like to do in your free time (if you have any to speak of)?

DJ: Ha! You got that right! I hardly have any! But when I'm not writing or reading, I try to get in as much TV/movie time as I can. I also have an unhealthy online shopping habit. My purchases mostly include books, but I've been known to make major clothes and shoes orders online. So basically, my book, clothes, and shoe collections are out of control.

Me: Do you ever feel certain amounts of pressure when writing to do something that your fans would like, instead of what you'd like?

DJ: What a great question! Yes, all of the time. But I also struggle with doing things that the readers aren't going to like too. It's a constant struggle. I don't want to turn my readers off, but I have to keep them on their toes. That means I have to throw them curveballs, things that they don't expect. Some things will be good, some things will suck. But in the end, I stand behind every decision I make. Though I love my readers, I will always do what I think is best for the book. Always.

Me: Last but not least, what is your all-time, never-put-down or get tired of reading, favorite book to read over and over again (or not necessarily over and over again)?

DJ: I honestly have no such book. In fact, I really don't like reading books twice. BUT I did read Goblet of Fire twice because that book is just amazing, but that's rare and I probably won't read it again. I know, I'm weird.

Prophecy of Solstice's Ends (Oracle of Delphi #3)

Author: Diantha Jones

Release Date: July 15, 2013

Summary (Goodreads):

Summer Solstice is here. Let the games begin.

Nothing but lies (some of them her own) and deceit have brought Chloe to Olympus for the Solstice Olympic Games. As the Oracle and the special guest of the King of Myth, Chloe becomes immersed in a life of unfathomable luxury, taunting history, and overwhelming excitement. Though scheming and untrustworthy, the gods remain on their best behavior as the tension and anticipation builds around the outcome of the Quest of the Twelve Labors, the deadliest competition of the Games. All seems well on the celestial front...until athletes start turning up dead and a philosopher missing for months returns with a most terrifying story...

But that’s not all.

As Strafford confronts his troubled past and more is learned about the Great Unknown Prophecy, Chloe grows close to another, setting off a chain of events that will bring her face-to-face with a truth that will rock both of her worlds to their core.
And it’ll all happen before Solstice’s end...
